Which one of the following statements is correct ____________.

ANSWER

The Governor of the State holds his office during the pleasure of the President

SOLUTION
The Chief Election Commissioner of India holds the office for a period of six years or until he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. He can resign at any time or can also be removed before the expiry of the term. Thus, the statement that Chief Election Commissioner of India holds his office during the pleasure of President is false.
The Governor of the State is neither elected directly nor indirectly. He is appointed by the President by warrant under his hand and seal. A Governor of the State hold his office for a term of five years, however, this term is subject to the pleasure of President. Thus, the statement that the Governor holds his office during the pleasure of the President is correct.
The Prime Minister as long as he enjoys the majority support in Lok Sabha cannot be dismissed. But as soon as he loses the vote of confidence in Lok Sabha(Lower House) he must resign or the President can dismiss him. So, the statement that the Prime Minister can only be removed by a resolution passed by both Houses of Parliament is false.
The Speaker of the Lok Sabha is elected by Lok Sabha from amongst its members. The statement that the Speaker of Lok Sabha can be removed at the pleasure of the President is false. The speaker of Lok Sabha has to vacate his office in the following three cases:
1- if he ceases to be a member of Lok Sabha;
2- if he resigns by writing to the Deputy Speaker; and
3- if she is removed by a resolution passed by a majority of all the members of Lok Sabha.
