The Constitution of India has made the President only a nominal executive, the real powers are vested in council of Ministers headed by the Prime Minister. The President acts in aid and advise of the council of ministers and is called de jure head(titular head) of the State. He is made Chief Executive of the state and all executive actions of the Government of India are taken in his name. He acts as the supreme commander of Defence forces and appoints chiefs of the Army, the Navy and the Airforce. The President is integral part of Union legislature. The Parliament of India consists of Loksabha, Rajya Sabha and the President.
