Article 65 of the Constitution of India provide for the Vice President to act as President or to discharge his functions during vacancy or absence of president and Article 70 of the Constitution of India provides that Vice - President discharge the function of President in contingencies. During the period when the Vice- President acts as President or discharges his functions, he is entitled to the salary and allowances of the President and not of the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
