Election Commission of India is a constitutionally mandated body that was established in 1950 to foster the democratic process in India. It has its headquarters in New Delhi. It consists of three members, namely:  the Chief Election Commissioner and two Other Commissioners who are appointed by the Indian President for a term of 6 years and who cannot be dismissed from office accepted by parliamentary impeachment.
The body administers elections to the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies in India, and the offices of President and Vice President in the Country.
