Overview

Staff Selection Commission like every year publishes the official notification for recruitment of stenographer Grade C and Grade D vacancies. As per information available the official notification for inviting applications for the stenographer post will be published on 7 May, 2016. SSC will also publish an official advertisement in employment news/rozgar samachar on the same date.

 All interested candidates can fill the application form till the last date which is 3 June, 2016. The written examination for recruitment of stenographer Grade C &D 2016 will be held on 31 July, 2016. This time SSC has invited applications for 1,064 posts of stenographers across various government departments and ministries.

All intermediate pass candidates are eligible to fill the forms for stenographer Grade C and Grade D vacancies. The examination comprises of an objective type written examination followed by a skill test in stenography. The minimum eligibility criteria in skill test for Grade C is 100 word per minute and 80 wpm for Grade D.

Total number of vacancies: For Grade C: 50 (UR-28, SC-05, ST-08, OBC-09)

Total number of vacancies: For Grade D: 1,014 (UR-642, SC-113, ST-61, OBC-198)

Joining posting places: Grade C stenographers will mostly be appointed in ministries/departments of the Central government, mostly in Delhi NCR. Grade D appointees will be recruited in ministries/departments of the Central government including attached sub offices located at different states and union territories all over India.

Eligibility

Age limit: 18 to 27 years as on 1 August, 2016. A relaxation in age limit is provided for SC/ST, OBC and other reserved categories.

Minimum educational qualification required: Intermediate pass/class 12th pass or candidates appearing for the class 12th exam can apply.

Selection procedure: An open national level written examination will be conducted for selection of eligible candidates. The examination will be conducted on 31st July, 2016. All the candidates who qualify the written examination will be called for a skill/typing test and stenography test.

Candidates who are selected will be appointed as stenographer Grade C (group B non-gazetted) in pay band 2 plus grade pay as admissible and stenographer Grade D (group C non-technical) in pay band 1.

Candidates who are called for a skill test will be required to produce in original their relevant certificates, mark sheets and provisional certificates etc.

The process of submission of the application form consists of two parts. Part 1 is related to registration process and dissemination of basic information of the candidate and Part 2 is related to application fee submission. Candidates are required to submit only one application form for Grade C & D posts. The last date of filling the application is 3rd June, 2016.

Syllabus of written examination for SSC GD constable recruitment

General intelligence and reasoning: Verbal and non-verbal reasoning, analogies, similarities, differences, spatial visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. The test will also include questions for testing the candidate’s abilities in dealing with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationship, arithmetical computation and other analytical functions.

General awareness: These questions are designed to test the ability of candidate’s general awareness of the environment and its implications towards the society. The questions are also designed to test the knowledge on current affairs and matters of everyday observation in scientific aspects, as it is expected out of an educated person. Questions will also relate to India and its neighbouring countries, and pertaining to sports, history, society and culture, geography, economic science, general politics including the Indian Constitution etc.

Note: For Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates with 40 per cent and above visual disability and those opting for scribe, there shall be no components of maps/graphs/diagrams/statistical data in the general intelligence & reasoning/general awareness paper.

English language and comprehension: In addition to testing the candidates understanding the English language, vocabulary, grammar, sentence formation, synonyms, antonyms and their correct usage, writing ability etc would also be tested.

SSC stenographer skill test: All those candidates who qualify in the written examination will be called in for a skill test in stenography.  Each candidate is required to score minimum qualifying cutoff marks to be declared as qualified in the SSC stenographer recruitment.

The candidates will be given a dictation for 10 minutes in Hindi/English at a speed of 100 word per minute for Grade C and 80 words per minute for Grade D.

The dictated matter will have to be transcribed on the computer only. The transcription times are as follows:

Stenographer Grade D: 50 minutes (English)      65 minutes (Hindi)

Stenographer Grade C: 40 minutes (English)      55 minutes (Hindi)


Results

Prescribed fee

Rs 100 for each application form for Grade C & D candidates. Fee is exempted for all women candidates and also for SC/ST, Physically Handicapped candidates and ex-servicemen. Candidates can submit the fees via SBI e-challan/debit/credit card or net banking.
